Longbows

This highly reflex-deflexed longbow is designed to be the ultimate hunting longbow. Its sleek and slender profile makes it quick to point and draw on game, while its 64" (unstrung) length gives it a glassy smooth draw but still allows it to be compact enough for the tree stand or ground blind.

The reflex-deflexed limbs are designed to cancel out string and bow vibration by forcing the limb tips up instead of forward. This makes for an incredibly smooth, vibration free, and forgiving bow.

The Eagle – Made by Lee Bowyer

I just recently received a custom longbow from Bryan M. Lee out of Fuquay, North Carolina. Mr. Lee made the process of selecting the components for my custom longbow very simple and enjoyable. The bow has figured Bubinga limbs, Tiger Stripe Maple Riser, with an Action Boo core. The string is a Fast Flight 60”, with Otter Fur silencers that add an amazing touch. The bow is 50# at 28” and 64” AMO, and comes in at just over 60” strung. Overall the bow is a work of art both strung and unstrung, and performs flawlessly in the hand.

The first shot with this bow was something of a surprise. I had previously never shot a longbow before, only Mathews and Ross compounds, but this was truly amazing. The draw of the bow was smooth as glass, the speed of the arrow out of the bow was remarkable, and the lack of hand shock was as well. It seemed that the arrow had hit the target just as soon as I let the string slip through, and the shot was effortless. I allowed a friend, Lonnie Cavitt, to shoot the bow as well. Mr. Cavitt has been shooting all traditional since the early 80’s, and has more robin-hoods with his longbows then most pro-shops have on their walls. He is a true lover of the sport, and a true toxopholite with traditional archery. His initial reaction at the shot was a wry smile and subtle laugh at the smooth draw, amazing speed and shock free shot. He said that the bow was as well made as any he had ever shot, and that the only other time he had seen a longbow like it was at an old bowyers shop in Northern Kentucky.

Obviously Lee Bowyers knows longbows. For such a young bowyer, Mr. Lee is really an amazing young man with an exceptional gift, and I look forward to some day owning more of the amazing bows from Lee Bowyers.
